Hanukkah .... Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover
On October 22, 1996, the USPS issued a stamp celebrating Hanukkah, the Jewish Fesival of Lights, jointly with the country of Israel. Depicting a colorful menorah, this stamp was subsequently reissued in 1999, 2001, and 2002. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp from both countries cancelled from the US city of issue (New York City) and the Israel city of issue (Jerusalem) on the first day of issue captioned above. A grace period insures that both cancellations bear the same date. Speaking of cancellations, the Israel cancellation is quite spectacular. This envelope is called a Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover. It was sent to Israel to have the Israeli stamp added and cancelled.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a rabbi lighting a menorah. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture. This is one of several pieces of Postal Stamp Art celebrating Judaica offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
