Adolph Ochs.... On February 3, 1961, the USPS issued a stamp honoring newspaper giant Adolph Ochs on the 125th Anniversary of the N.Y. Times. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the 13-cents stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New York City) on the first day of issue captioned above. The blue-toned cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Ochs with two smaller
drawings - the top one showing a man selecting type and the lower one
with the New York skyline. The caption below the portrait reads,
"Honoring Adolph S. Ochs 1858-1935 Publisher of the New York Times
- Ochs introduced the high journalistic practices which reflected
honesty and completeness in reporting." The company that produced this
cover has written a brief commentary, starting Ochs' career with his
acquisition of the Chattanooga Times to his acquisition and legacy of the New York Times.
Double matted in blue and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED*** |
