John and William Bartram.....

On May 18, 1999, the USPS issued a stamp honoring father and son, botanist and botanical artist respectively, John and William Bartram.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Philadelphia, PA) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of four older stamps, added to the envelope and then cancelled along with the new stamp on its 'birthday' elevate this cover to a Combo.  There is a 2-cents Thomas Jefferson stamp, a 3-cents George Washington Carver stamp, a 3-cents Luther Burbank stamp, and a 32-cents Maria Merian stamp.

The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a botanical drawing by William Bartram as well as an inset portrait of each Bartram.  The picture is printed on silk with an embossed gold border.

Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity  Included***
