On August 2, 1971, the USPS issued a stamp to honor noted American artist, John Sloan, one of "The Eight" original Ashcan Artists, known for capturing the raw realism of everyday life. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with Sloan's stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Lock Haven, Pa.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an inset of the artist and a black & white reproduction of his famous painting, 'Wake of the Ferry', also represented on the stamp. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of American art memorabilia.
It's double matted in blue & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
