On May 24, 1984, the USPS issued a stamp to honor one of the greatest athletes of all time, Jim Thorpe. In fact, where do you place Thorpe....in Olympic Sports where, during the 1912 Summer Games held in Stockhom, he made history by becoming the first athlete to win gold medals in both the pentathlon and decathlon.....or in Professional Baseball, where he played for the NY Ginats, the Cincinnati Reds, and then the Boston Braves......or in Professional Football where he played on seven different teams, ending up with the Chicago Cardinals?  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Jim Thorpe cancelled from the city of issue (Shawnee, OK) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Thorpe in his football jersey, plus smaller insets of him in a baseball uniform, and in track and field attire.  Historic, collectible, unaddressed, this is a great piece of Sports Memorabilia honoring Jim Thorpe, ABC's Wide World of Sports Athelete of the 20th Century.  The producer of this cover has also written a short commentary about Thorpe; we've included a copy.

Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
