James A. Michener.... On May 12, 2008, the USPS issued a stamp to honor novelist James A. Michener in its on-going Literary Arts series. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp, featuring a color picture of Michener wearing a Hawaiian lei, cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Michener against a backdrop of the Hawaiian coastline. The cachet is printed on silk,
the luster lending an-almost three dimensional look to the picture; a
gold embossed border 'frames' the portrait. Known for his blockbuster Hawaii, Michener followed with novels on Mexico, the Caribbean, Colorado, Texas, Israel and many more.
Historic, collectible it's matted in blue & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
