On September 1, 2001,the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Islamic Holiday of EID, marking the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Des Plaines, Illinois) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created to cancel these stamps on the first day.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows pilgrims circling the Kaaba (sacred shrine) in Mecca. Historic, collectible, this is the first US stamp issued to celebrate an Islamic holiday. In 2002, this stamp was re-issued with a denomination of 37 cents.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
