IOWA Sesquicentennial 1st Day of Issue Postal Cover 4 Stamps..... On August 1, 1996, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 150th Anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the Statehood of Iowa. Shown here is a genuine First Day of Issue Postal Cover with 4 Stamps, an envelope with the stamp, cancelled from the city of issue (Dubuque, IA) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The addition of three older stamps, which were added
to the envelope and then cancelled along with the new stamp on its
'birthday,' elevate this cover to a Combo. The
older stamps are a 3-cents stamp commemorating Iowa's Territorial
Centennial in 1938; another 3-cents stamp, this time for the Centennial
of Iowa Statehood in 1946; and, a 13-cents stamp depicting the Iowa
State Flag - issued in the US Bicentennial year of 1976.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) shows rolling farmland with corn stalks bundled together. The
picture is printed on silk surrounded by an embossed gold border.
Double matted in blue and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
