On February 18, 1999, the USPS issued a set of fifteen stamps to represent people and events of the decade of the 1940's. These fifteen stamps were, in turn, part of the entire 150 stamp series called Celebrate the Century, fifteen stamps for each of the ten decades. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the stamp commemorating the International Style of Architecture and depicting the glass & steel UN Secretariat Building cancelled from the city of issue (Dobbins AFB, Georgia) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark indicating the decade of the 1940's and the logo for the Celebrate the Century series.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a Gold Replica stamp, made from taking an impression off the plate that prints the stamp onto a base metal, then using a top layer of 22ct gold, mounted on a field of dark blue velvet mat. The envelope is then embossed with a gold border and top design of the eagle and shield.
Collectible, unaddressed, and historic, this item will be a handsome addition to your wall. Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus a brief Commentary about the International Style of Architecture Included***
