On May 26, 1999, the USPS issued a set of fifteen different stamps to commemorate the decade of the 1950's. One of these events was the extraordinarily popular television sit-com, the I Love Lucy Show. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Springfield, MA), on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed and used to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.' This fifteen stamp set was a part of an even larger 150 stamp set called Celebrate the Century - made up of fifteen stamps from each decade.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features a small drawing depicting all fifteen events chosen to represent this decade...from the 'Subway Series' to Dr. Seuss, to 3-D Movies, Rock 'n Roll and the Korean War. This is a little-known stamp issued for Lucy...collectors know about the stamp issued for Lucy herself in 2001, but don't know about this one.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
