Iowa.... On August 3, 1946, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Statehood of Iowa. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, cancelled from the city of issue (Iowa City, IA) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The brightly colored cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) shows the Iowa flag, corn. a tractor and the state seal. The
caption reads, "Iowa - where the tall corn grows - 1846 -1946 - 100
years of statehood." The company that produced this cover is Fluegel -
the only major cachet-maker that printed their artwork in color in the
1940's. It's unaddressed and in pristine condition.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
