On April 4, 2002, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps commemorating each state in postcard format. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp for the state of Illinois depicting the skyline Chicago and ears of corn to represent the vast agricultural part of the state, cancelled from the city of issue (Springfield, IL) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created to cancel this set of 50 stamps on their 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows the open letters of 'IL' with an aerial view of Chicago's lakefront, the John Hancock Building featured prominently. It's printed on silk, the luminosity lending an almost three dimensional quality to the picture.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
