On June 13, 1987, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps commemorating North American Wildlife. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting the Pika cancelled from the city of issue (the USPS Station set up in Toronto, Canada to coincide with the Canada Stamp Show) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of two other stamps - the Idaho State Bird (Mountain Bluebird) and State Flower (Syringa), and the distinctive Idaho State Flag, which has been replaced, make this a Combo....an extra special first day cover. The two older stamps were added to the envelope along with the new one and then all three were cancelled on the 'birthday' of the Pika Stamp.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features artwork of two Pikas by noted wildlife artist Dan Balke. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Pika, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
