Hudson's General.... On July 28, 1993, the USPS issued five stamps to commemorate the "Iron Horse" of the late 1800's." Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of an envelope, with the stamp for Hudson's General, cancelled from the city of issue (Chama, New Mexico) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the card) features an illustration of the Hudson's General
with the caption, "Commandeered by Northern forces, recovered by the
Confederacy." The company that produced this cover has also written a
longer commentary about the fascinating Civil War railroad story known
as the Andrews Raid involving Hudson's General. It's printed on the back of the envelope, which we have copied and included for you.
Double matted in green & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
