On March 31, 1983, the USPS issued a set of four stamps to commemorate Hot Air Balloons..... the Intrepid used by the Union Army during the Civil War , the Explorer II, which set a new high-altitude record of 72,395 feet, and two stamps showing the brightly-colored balloons we now associate with the annual meet in Albuqueque. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, in this case the complete set of stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Albuqueque, N.M.) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the Montgolfier Balloon, the extraordinary Hot Air Balloon designed by the Montgolfier Brothers of France. This cover has all the bells & whistles...the complete set of stamps cancelled on the first day, a gorgeous cachet, and it's clean and unaddressed.
Double matted in blue and white, this piece is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus a short blurb on hot air balloons***
