Henry VIII HMS MARY ROSE 1st Day Cover Henry VIII HMS MARY ROSE Stamp.... On June 16, 1982, the Royal Mail of Great Britain issued a set of five stamps to commemorate British Maritime Heritage....Henry VIII's Mary Rose, Blake's Triumph, Lord Nelson's Victory, Lord Fisher's Dreadnought, and Viscount Cunningham's Warspite. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new Henry VIII-HMS Mary Rose Stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Portsmouth - current home of the Victory) on the first day of issue
captioned above. Note the beautiful cancellation featuring the Tudor
Rose, created expressly to cancel this set of stamps on their
'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features original artwork by artist Marjorie Saynor, who also designed the stamps, of H.M.S. Mary Rose
off the Isle of Wight. The caption below reads, "Henry VIII and
H.M.S. Mary Rose - Aghast, King Henry VIII watched as his proud vessel
and her crew vanished beneath the waves." The company that produced
this cover has also written a brief commentary about Henry VIII and the
short-lived HMS Mary Rose,
which we've included. This cover has all the bells and whistles - a
splendid stamp, great original artwork on the cachet, and a beautiful
postmark.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
