John Harvard *** Harvard University.........

On September 3, 1986, the USPS issued a stamp to honor John Harvard, whose generous gift to the college in Newtowne, Massachusetts, enabled its immediate operation and on May 2, 1638, was renamed Harvard University, remaining today the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of a Maximum Card, with the 56-cents stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cambridge, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above.

A Maximum Card, printed on heavy stock paper, has as its defining characteristic the exceptional artwork (cachet), which encompasses the entire card.  Even the words "First Day of Issue" are omitted in order to not interfere with the picture.  The back of the card is printed with a brief commentary about the subject, in this case - John Harvard.  Also on the back is a testament to the fact that this is indeed a First Day Cover.  Wall Art Collectibles makes a copy and includes it along with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The full-color cachet features a picture of the prominent clergyman John Harvard with the college in the background, set against a stark setting and brooding New England sky.  The stamp features a portrait of Harvard, who died at the early age of thirty-one.

We've double matted this First Day Cover in blue and white and sized it to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
