Gulf Coast Lighthouse: SAND ISLAND, AL - Matted 1st Day Cover
|
|
Sand Island Lighthouse....
On July 23, 2009, the USPS issued its fifth lighthouse set with its Gulf Coast Lighthouses. The five stamps celebrate the following lighthouses: Fort Jefferson - Florida; Sand Island - Alabama; Biloxi - Mississippi; Sabine Pass - Louisiana; and, Matagorda Island - Texas. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full color stamp of the Sand Island Lighthouse (located roughly 3 miles from Mobile Bay entrance between Mobile Point on the east and Dauphin Island on the west) cancelled from the city of issue (Biloxi, MS) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a stylized Sand Island Lighthouse. The picture is printed on silk,
enhanced by an embossed gold border. Deactivated in 1933, the 131ft
tall brownstone structure is now owned by the residents of Dauphin
Island.
Double matted in blue and white, the piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
