Sabine Pass Lighthouse....

On July 23, 2009, the USPS issued its fifth lighthouse set with its Gulf Coast Lighthouses.  The five stamps celebrate the following lighthouses:  Fort Jefferson - Florida; Sand Island - Alabama; Biloxi - Mississippi; Sabine Pass - Louisiana; and, Matagorda Island - Texas.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full color stamp of the Sabine Pass Lighthouse (located in the extreme southwest corner of Louisiana at the mouth of the Sabine River)  cancelled from the city of issue (Biloxi, MS) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a stylized Sabine Pass Lighthouse. The picture is printed on silk, enhanced by an embossed gold border.  Built in 1857 of brick, the 80 ft. octagonal structure features eight buttresses at its base to spread the weight in the marshy land. It was disbanded in 1952.

Double matted in blue and white, the piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
