Biloxi Lighthouse....

On July 23, 2009, the USPS issued its fifth lighthouse set with its Gulf Coast Lighthouses.  The five stamps celebrate the following lighthouses:  Fort Jefferson - Florida; Sand Island - Alabama; Biloxi - Mississippi; Sabine Pass - Louisiana; and, Matagorda Island - Texas.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full color stamp of the Biloxi Lighthouse (located in the median of Hwy 90 in Biloxi, Mississippi)  cancelled from the city of issue (Biloxi, MS) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a stylized Biloxi Lighthouse. The picture is printed on silk, enhanced by an embossed gold border.  Built in 1846 of cast iron, the Biloxi Lighthouse has the distinction of being kept longer than any other lighthouse in America by women, as well as having survived two 'notorious women' - hurricanes Camille and Katrina.

Double matted in blue and white, the piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
