On May 19, 2005, the USPS issued a set of twelve stamps to honor MASTERWORKS OF MODERN AMERICAN ARCHITECTURE. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The envelope has the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Las Vegas, Nevada) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the familiar exterior of the museum that was completed in 1959. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, many believe the Guggenheim to be one of the greatest architectural creations produced in the 20th century. The spiral design of the exterior presents a striking contrast to the rectanular forms typical of big cities, and, at the same time, offers the perfect space for the museums's spectacular display of modern art.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included as well as a short commentary on this MASTER OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE***
