On September 3, 1985, the Royal Poste of Great Britain issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the Legend of King Arthur. These four stamps, designed by artist Anne Yvonne Gilbert depict King Arthur & Merlin, the Lady of the Lake, Guinevere & Lancelot, and Sir Galahad. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special "chalice" postmark created for the first day cancellation.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) again features art by Gilbert...this time the death of Arthur and his final journey to the vale of Avalon. If you're an Anglophile or a devotee of the Arthurian Legend, or, maybe both, you'll love this piece of Postal Stamp Art. It's historic, collectibe, and just plain beautiful. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about The Final Battle; we have made a copy for you.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
