On June 13, 1988, the USPS honored Francis D. Ouimet with a stamp. At the age of 20 he won the U.S. Open as an amateur by defeating the two leading British professionals of the day. The envelope features his stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Brookline, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Ouimet. In 1949, as a tribute to the game he loved, Ouimet founded the Francis Ouimet Caddie Scholarship Fund, and by the time of his death, it had awarded over $400,000 in scholarships. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about Ouimet and his winning the U.S. Open...we've included a copy for you.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY plus COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
