The US postal stamp for Legendary Football Coach Glenn "Pop" Warner was issued individually on August 8, 1997 after having been issued with three other football coaches (Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant, and George Halas) a month before on July 25, 1997 out of Canton, Ohio. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope cancelled from the city of issue (Philadelphia, PA) on the first day of issue captioned above. If you look closely at this stamp, there is a red line above Warner's name. On his stamp issued in July 1997, there is no red line. This is true for the stamps of the other three coaches.
The full-color watercolor cachet (artwork on the envelope) features four youths playing the game to call attention to the greatest living legacy of Pop Warner...the Pop Warner Youth Football League. Established in 1929, these teams from all over the country involve thousands of young people in the game of football. During his college coaching career, Warner amassed 319 wins and had the honor of coaching two of football's greatests...Jim Thorpe and Ernie Nevers (both of whom have US Postal Stamps - see our Football Catagory.)
Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
