On April 12, 1961 Yuri Gagarin of the Soviet Union became the first human being in space and the first to orbit the Earth. These two important "firsts" were commemorated twenty years later on April 12, 1981 with a beautiful tabbed Soviet Postal Stamp. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover Combo displayed on a Collector Panel featuring full-color artwork. The 20th Anniversary Stamp is displayed at the top of the panel. The addition of nine older stamps, which were added along with the new one and then cancelled along with it on its "birthday," make this a Combo.
The blue stamp on the top right side is for Sputnik in 1957. I wish we could tell you what the other stamps commemorate, but right now we can't. We'll research it and put the information on as soon as we know. Unfortunately, there is no accompanying information sheet.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 11 X 14 frame.
