On April 29, 1983, the USPS issued a stamp jointly with Germany to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of German Immigration. Shown here is a genuine Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover, an envelope with each country's stamp cancelled from the cities of issue (Germantown, PA for the U.S. and Bonn for Germany), on the first day of issue captioned above. Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation Covers always have a grace period so that each country can send its covers to the other country and be assured that both cancellations will have the same first day of issue date. Note the special German postmark created for the cancellation of this stamp on the first day.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) features German Immigrants with the first ship (the Concord) to carry them to America. Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation Covers are always special; this one is no exception.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
