On September 30, 1982, the USPS issued a set of four stamps commemorating four masterpieces of modern American architecture. One of these was for Frank Lloyd Wright's triumph of 'organic achitecture' Fallingwater, a weekend retreat for Edgar J. Kaufmann. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope created by a private company) features a beautiful rendition of Fallingwater nestled in the Pennsylvania woodlands, its color, lines and location amid the rocks all seeming a natural part of the forest setting. The producer of this cover has also written a brie commentary about Fallingwater, which we've included.
Double matted in blue and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
