Canadian Steam Locomotives..... On October 25, 1984, the Canada Post issued four stamps commemorating four historic steam locomotives for the period 1860-1905 - the Scotia 0-6-0, the Countess of Dufferin 4-4-0, the GT Class E-3 2-6-0, and the CP Class D10a Type 4-6-0. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Ottawa, Canada) on the first day of issue
captioned above. During the forty-five year period from 1860-1905, a
rapid expansion of the Canadian railway took place. This paralleled
the birth and geographical expansion of Canada as a nation.
The cachet (artwork
on the envelope) features an archival photo shows the arrival of the
first daily passenger train from the East at the CPR depot at Fernie,
B.C. on June 18, 1899.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
