On October 1, 1986, the USPS issued a set of five stamps commemorating historic American Steamboats that worked the rivers of America in the ninteenth century. The five Steamboats celebrated are the Rebecca Everingham, the Sylvan Dell, the Far West, the Bailey Gatzert, and the Robert E. Lee. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all five stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Orlando, Fl.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a beautiful painting of the Paragon, built by Robert Fulton in 1811 and only the third steamboat to work the Hudson River. A beautiful cachet, unaddressed, and having the complete series of stamps cancelled on the first day of issue, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of steamboat memorabilia. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Paragon and the cachet-artist John Swatsley.
Double matted in blue and white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
