Historic Trains of Great Britain.....

On January 25, 1985, the Royal Mail of Great Britain issued a set of five stamps celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Great Western Railway with five Historic Trains of Great Britain - the Flying Scotsman, the Golden Arrow, the Cheltenham Flyer, the Royal Scot, and the Cornish Riviera.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all five stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh, Scotland) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a train with a roadway below.  The real artwork is on the stamps, painted by artist Stanley Paine whose talents have captured the beauty and romance of five of Britain's famed steam locomotives.  The back of the envelope has a brief commentary about these trains and the artist, which we have copied and included.

Double matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
