The art of Flytying extends back to the Victorian era when sportfishing became accepted as a gentleman's activity.  A single fly could take hours to tie and might use dozens of different materials.  To honor these  "artists" of the flats and streams, the USPS issued a set of five stamps in 1991 to commemorate five historical Fishing Flies.

Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cuddebackville, NY) on the first day of issue (May 31, 1991.) One of the five is the Royal Wulff, created in the 1930's by legendary angler, author and fly-tier, Lee Wulff.  Not only did his brightly-colored fly help thousands of fly fishers catch trout, but he also created the many-pocketed fishing vest.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features gorgeous artwork by renowned wildlife artist, Dan Balke. Collectible, historic, this First Day Cover is sure to be a great conversation piece on your wall as well as evoking pleasant memories fishing in cold mountain streams.

Double Matted in blue and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.  ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED AS WELL AS A SHORT COMMENTARY ON THE ROYAL WULFF***
