"Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires".....

On August 13, 1984, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the symbolic protector of America's forests, Smokey the Bear on his 40th birthday.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting the mythical Smokey and the real Smokey - an orphaned bear cub from the Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico, cancelled from the city of issue (Capitan, NM) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by private comapnies, not the USPS) features a large black bear investigating a wasp nest with a poster of Smokey the Bear attached to a tree behind him.  The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about Smokey which is included.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Plus Commentary Included***
