FRIEDRICH WILHELM BESSEL Mathematician Astronomer Bessel Functions 1st Day Cover....

On June 1984, Germany issued a stamp to honor mathematician, astronomer and systematizer of the Bessel Functions - Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel.  The stamp depicts a portrait of Bessel, along with the astronomical parallax, as he was the first to discover it in 1838 and use it to calculate the distance to a star.  Note the special postmark featuring a telescope, created expressly to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Bonn) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a drawing of Bessel along with his birth and death years.

The piece is matted in blue and white and sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  At Wall Art Collectibles, we always mat to standard frame sizes, allowing you to select a frame that best suits your decor.  The First Day Cover comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
