On October 9, 1981, the USPS issued a stamp honoring artist, sculptor & author, Frederic Remington and his famous sculpture, Comin' through the Rye. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. In short, it's the 'birthday' of the stamp - a collectible, historic piece of postal and Western memorabilia.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Remington with his famous sculpture; it's printed on silk giving the art a beautiful luster. If you like Remington, check out this catagory for the First Day Cover of one of his American Indian paintings.
Double matted in Williamsburg Blue and light blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
