FRANK SINATRA.....
On May 13, 2008, the USPS issued a stamp to honor one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century - Frank Sinatra.
With a career that spanned decades, teen idol to music legend, Sinatra,
with his countless albums, movie and television career, and entertainer
par excellence, took a song and made it his own. Shown here is a
genuine First Day Cover, an envelope, with the color stamp depicting a young Sinatra with his classic fedora, cancelled from the city of issue (New York City, NY) on the first day of issue
captioned above. Note the special postmark featuring his signature and
line of music created to cancel his stamp on its 'birthday.' The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows the skyline of New York at night with the Empire State Building prominent and the song title 'New York - New York,'
superimposed over it, a perfect example of Sinatra 'taking a song and
making it his own.' The picture is printed on silk surrounded by a
gold embossed border.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.
