FRANCIS CHICHESTER Gipsy Moth IV 1st Day Cover GIPSY MOTH IV Stamp....

On July 24, 1967, the Royal Mail of Great Britain issued a stamp to honor Sir Francis Chichester (9/17/01-8/26/72), aviator and sailor, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for becoming the 1st person to sail single-handed around the world , west to east by the clipper route and the fastest circumnavigator, 9 months, 1 day overall with just one stop in Sydney, Australia.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope, with the stamp depicting Chichester's boat Gipsy Moth IV, cancelled from the city of issue (Plymouth) on the first day of issue captioned above.  Note the special postmark created to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'

The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a picture of Chichester at the helm during his world voyage.  Historic, collectible, this cover was mailed back to the original collector after the new stamp was added and cancelled on the issue date, bearing a faint penciled address, that will be be almost-invisible when framed.

Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
