On October 2, 1996, the USPS issued a set of 15 stamps to commemorate 15 different Endangered Species in America....one of these was the Ocelot, also known as the "painted leopard." Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of a Proof Card. Printed on heavy stock paper, the full-color stamp depicting a close-up view of this relatively small wild cat found primarily in Texas and Mexico, is cancelled from the city of issue (San Diego, CA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed to cancel this set of stamps on their 'birthday' from the San Diego Zoo.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the card) features a crouching ocelot with its remarkable coat, surrounded by an embossed border. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about the ocelot, which we've included.
Matted in green, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary included***
