On October 2, 1996, the USPS issued a set of 15 stamps to commemorate 15 different Endangered Species in America....one of these was the California Condor, the largest soaring bird in North America. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of a Proof Card. Printed on heavy stock paper, the full-color stamp depicting a close-up of, well, only a face a mother could love, is cancelled from the city of issue (San Diego, CA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed to cancel this set of stamps on their 'birthday' from the San Diego Zoo.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the card) features two soaring condors with their spectacular 10-foot wing span...a sight everyone in America should be lucky enough to witness. The cachet is surrounded by an embossed border. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about the California Condor, which we've included.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary included***
