On May 11, 1992, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Great Hall on Ellis Island on its 100th Anniversary. In its 60 year history, over 16 million people were processed - on their way to becoming U.S. citizens. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an imprinted postcard with the new "stamp" or imprint (an imprint is treated as if it were a separate stamp) cancelled from the city of issue (Ellis Island, NY.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts the interior of the Great Hall with waiting immigrants. On the back of the postcard is a short history of Ellis Island; we have copied this and included it for you.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
