EDGAR ALLAN POE The Raven 1st Day Issue Postal Cover 5 Stamps.....

On January 16, 2009, the USPS issued a stamp to honor Edgar Allan Poe on the 200th Anniversary of his birth (January 19, 1809.)  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full color stamp, featuring a portrait of Poe, cancelled from the city of issue (Richmond, VA - where he's buried) on the first day of issue captioned above.  The addition of four older stamps, cancelled along with the new stamp on its 'birthday' elevate this cover to a Combo.  The 3-cents magenta stamp again honors Poe and was issued in 1949.  The other three stamps honor three more American poets and authors - Henry Longfellow, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Walt Whitman - and were issued in 1940.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows Poe against a background of his most famous poem, The Raven...the title, its opening lines, and a silhouette of a raven on a barren tree.  The picture is printed on silk with an embossed gold border.

Double matted in black and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.   ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
