ELLA......
On January 10, 2007, the USPS issued another stamp in its Black Heritage Series to honor one of the greatest singers of all time...Ella Fitzgerald. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp depicting her face cancelled from the city of issue (New York, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special cancellation incorporating her name and microphone created for the express purpose of canceling this stamp on its 'birthday.' The addition of three older stamps, cancelled along with the new one, make this a Combo, an extra special First Day Cover. The company that created this cover chose three stamps honoring three composers whose music was a big part of Ella's repertoire.....Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a photo portrait of Ella set against a backdrop of piano keys, her name highlighted above. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture. Collectible, historic, this cover represents a beautiful way to display a postal tribute to Ella.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
