EDGAR ALLAN POE 1st Day Issue 1949 Postal Cover.....

On October 7, 1949, the USPS issued a stamp to honor Edgar Allan Poe on the 100th Anniversary of his death.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Issue 1949 Postal Cover, an envelope with the stamp, featuring a portrait of Poe, cancelled from the city of issue (Richmond, VA - where he was raised) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Poe with drawings of books and an inkwell and quill pen.  The caption reads,  "Commemorating the Centenary of the death of Edgar Allan Poe 1849 - American Poet - 1949."

Double matted in black and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.   ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
