"Cat in the Hat"... On May 26, 1999, the USPS issued
fifteen stamps to represent the decade of the 1950's. One of these
honors Theodore Seuss Geisel - Dr. Seuss - and his book "The
Cat in the Hat." Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with the stamp
(featuring the Cat in his distinctive red and white striped Hat)
cancelled from the city of
issue (Springfield, MA - where Geisel was born on March 2, 1904)
on the 1st Day of Issue
captioned above.
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a Seuss drawing and the artist-author
himself. The artwork is printed on silk surrounded by an embossed gold border. The company that produced this cover has
also written a brief commentary about Dr. Seuss, printed on heavy card
stock, which we've included. Double matted in blue & white, this piece is
sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of
Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
