On May 13, 1981, the USPS issued a set of four stamps commemorating Butterflies. One of these is the Dogface, a fast-flying, agile butterfly very fond of nectar from purple flowers. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Indianapolis) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows off the striking color- combination of the Dogface.
Double matted in green and white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. For anyone who loves the magic of butterflies, this is truly a unique gift. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included as well as a short Commentary about the Dogface***
