Detroit Electric Car....
On June 25, 1981, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Detroit Electric Car. The first electric car was made in Scotland in 1842. By 1900, they had been improved to the point that they were fairly common in most major cities. Perhaps the most luxurious was the Detroit Electic, produced from 1907 until 1939. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Greenfield Village, Mi.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the Detroit Electric out for a drive. Great art, unaddressed, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of automobile and postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
