Lady and the Tramp....
On April 21, 2006, the USPS issued a set of four stamps celebrating The Art of Disney Romance. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp honoring those loveable canines - Lady & the Tramp cancelled from the city of issue (Orlando, FL) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark. This is a digital color postmark created by the USPS, featuring Mickey and Minnie with appropriate surrounding hearts.
*** A word about this postmark: As you may or may not know, the USPS is not allowed to put any artwork on the envelopes they issue. In this country we leave that to private companies and individuals. Because the combination of the first day cancellation and the artwork is what fives a first day cover its value, the USPS has come up with a way to get artwork on the envelope without actually having a cachet. Since they control the cancellation process, they now offer these digital color cancellations for which they can charge more. First Day Covers are now cancelled with these digital color cancellations, as well as the black and white cancellations - both are genuine first day cover cancellations. Confusing? You bet! And, there are many collectors that are just not happy with this new turn of events. Suffice it to say that this cover has the 'taking it to a higher level' cancellation...a 'plus' for you!
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Lady and The Tramp enjoying their famous spaghetti dinner, just like they are on the stamp.
Double matted in blue & white, this pice is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
