On June 14, 1979, the Postal Service of Denmark issued two stamps to commemorate the Vikings - each stamp depicting a different Viking artifact. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with one of these stampa cancelled from Denmark on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a Viking Exploration Ship, similar to the one used by Eirik the Red on his travels to Greenland. At a time when most men died within walking distance of their birthplace, the Vikings were exploring vast stretches of the northern hemisphere and discovering new lands.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
