On July 20, 2006, the USPS issued a set of twenty action-packed stamps commemorating D.C. Comic Book Heroes with ten stamps for each character and ten of early D.C. comic book covers featuring each of the ten characters. Celebrated on these stamps are Superman, Batman, the Flash, the Green Lantern, Hawkman, Supergirl, Plastic Man, the Green Arrow, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with two stamps for the Green Lantern.... (the character stamp and the stamp for the Green Lantern comic book cover for Jan./Fedb.1961), cancelled from the city of issue (San Diego, CA to coincide with Comic Con, the largest comic book convention held each year in the U.S., on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features the Green Lantern and his logo. On the back of the envelope is a brief commentary about this ace test pilot who becomes a galactic peace officer with an emerald power ring that can create virtually anything, as well as what is printed on back of each stamp. Collectible historic, this cover is a must-have for any Superhero Collector!
