From pilot to the Mackey Trophy for superior achievement in aviation, from a highly decorated pilot during WWII to the head of the newly formed Strategic Air Command and then Air Force Chief of Staff under John F. Kennedy ...Curtis E. LeMay has enjoyed a military career few have equalled. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover in the form of a Proof Card, bearing the postmark of November 15 - LeMay's birthday, from Columbus, Ohio - his place of birth. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp serves the purpose of supplying postage, for without it, the post office would not furnish a cancellation. The two stamps used to furnish postage are a U.S. flag stamp and the 3 cents Win the War stamp issued in 1942.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of LeMay, a B52 Bomber, and the insignia of the SAC. Also included is a short commentary of LeMay's career, including his celebrated missions in his B17 in the Atlantic theater. Historic, collectible, this is one of several pieces of WWII and U.S. Air Force Postal Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Matted in blue, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included***
