On February 3, 1998, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the First American Crossword Puzzle created by Arthur Wynne in the December 21, 1913 New York World. This stamp is one of fifteen stamps selected to represent the decade from 1910 to 1919 in the 150 stamp series called Celebrate the Century. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a man working a crossword puzzle. The producer of this cover has also written a brief history of the crossword puzzle. If Will Shortz is on your list of "Ten People I'd Most Like to Have Dinner With", this is for you.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. *** Certificate of Authenticity Included**
